Faith formation

The Faith Formation programs offered at Holy Redeemer - St. James the Less are focused on strengthening each person's personal relationship with God while participating in a Sacramental life with a community that prays, worships and serves together.

    Virtual Catechesis for Families

Our parish has gone beyond the limited approach of traditional weekly catechism by forming our Families of Faith Program.  Acknowledging the present day realities in which our parents and young people exist, we have designed a program to assist them in being people of faith in all of life’s situations and circumstances; their family, their school and community, their parish.

We address faith formation in this way: Whole Family Catechesis combined with both Class Catechesis and Home Catechesis (all virtual at this time.) This approach enables formation in various learning styles and incorporates the most important element of catechesis; parents passing on their Catholic faith to their children.  Sharing the catechetical lessons with other families and supporting one another along our journey of faith and parenting, is a departure from the “Sunday School” approach of years past.  Our parents are engaging in conversation about faith with their children, not letting others do it for them.  This builds a connectedness amongst the family members that will help in all areas of family life.

Lastly, to support our parents in their role, we offer Adult Faith Formation through our Men’s and Women’s Groups that meet virtually discussing scripture reflection, prayer and fellowship. Email Trish for the times and Zoom information:

Whole Family Catechesis: First Sunday of the month all of the family comes together to attend 8am Mass on the lawn at St. James or on Facebook or Youtube at 8:30am. After Mass, we join together on Zoom for a 30 minute family session of prayer, activities and teachings from 10-10:30am led by Ms. Trish.

Class Catechesis: The second and third Sunday of the month the children are given age specific formation from their catechist.  The Catechist may send the lesson by video, google classroom, email or ask for a virtual meeting by Zoom.  The catechist for each grade will communicate with you how they will be delivering their lessons. If meeting by Zoom the time will be from 10-10:30am. The lessons will be no longer than 30 minutes.

Home Catechesis: The fourth Sunday of the month, the family works together at home on a lesson that incorporates the Gospel messages for the upcoming month. This lesson will be sent by email and should take 30 minutes.

    • If there is a 5th Sunday in a month that is an off week
    • Families are expected to attend Mass weekly either in person or online.

  • Whole Family Catechesis

Our Parish Families are invited to grow together in faith on the First Sunday of each month. We gather at Holy Redeemer's Healy Hall beginning at 8:30 AM with a light breakfast and then have a family lesson led by a team of volunteer catechists focused on faith topics relevant to family life. We close by attending Mass together at 10:00 AM. Whole Family Catechesis is a part of our Families of Faith program but is open to all families in the parish!
